How Green is Kahl Consultants?

Kahl Consultants are certified green and solar powered. We serve small business and nonprofit clients worldwide. Our mission is to help small business and nonprofits with appropriate online technology in an environmentally and socially conscious manner.

Our president Alex Kahl is an Environmental and Energy Consultant. His knowledge of environmental business practices ensure that Kahl Consultants is constantly reducing our environmental impact and actively promoting green practices with our clients and partners.

Conservation is key to running a sustainable business. We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint. Our business is solar powered as well as energy efficient. In order to conserve water we use graywater (recycled water), we collect rainwater and use water-saving fixtures. Our landscaping using xeriscaping methods and drought-tolerant native plants.

Kahl Consultants avoids working with socially and environmentally destructive corporations. We do not condone or assist in any greenwashing (this is the practice of companies disingenuously spinning their products and policies as environmentally friendly).

Promoting Green Practices

We offer our customers the option of GREEN HOSTING - having a web hosting account powered by renewable energy. We educate our visitors about environmental issues through our website, our news blog as well as our social networking sites.

Junk mail - or unsolicited mail - comes in many shapes and sizes. Junk mailers refer to it as "direct mail". Reduce junk mail and reduce unnecessary mail that depletes natural resources, creates waste that fills landfills.

Spam or junk e-mails are a waste of time and energy. Kahl Consultants assists our Hosting clients with spam fighting methods.

Green Certification

The San Francisco Bay Area Green Business Program is not that hard for businesses to join, since many of the requirements are multiple choice (as in "meet 3 of the following 5 requirements").

Kahl Consultants did not have to make changes at all, we managed to meet the requirements without any additional expenses or efforts (aside from filling out a questionnaire and going through an on-site audit). However we had already invested in green items such as energy efficiency, solar power, water conservation, recycling, and so on.

Here in Marin County, CA, there is an additional level of green certification called the Marin County Sustainable Partners Program. We were one of the first companies to receive the Sustainable Partner award, and it was considerably more difficult to achieve.

Another popular green certification is GREEN AMERICA's Green Business Seal of Approval, which Kahl Consultants received in 2010.
